The Beauty of Music

Music has one of the greatest effects on today's world. With so many styles of music there is no one left out. I listen to a few different types of music. My parents raised me to enjoy the classics such as AC/DC, Guns & Roses, and Journey. It wasn't until I was about ten or eleven years old that I started experimenting with other styles. Today on my Ipod you will find a medley of classical rock, hip hop, 21st Century Rap, and a little bit of country. I get bored with one type of music very easily so I have to keep a variety just to stay entertained. My favorite artist is Matthew Morrison, because his music speaks to you and always has a certain story to it. Speaking of Matthew Morrison, he wrote one of my favorite songs "Still Got Tonight." As for my least favorite song, I really don't have one. All music is unique and entertaining in its different ways. Most of the time my music selection is basically chosen off how I feel. My parents listen mostly to different country bands, and different Broadway Tunes that I have never heard before. I approve of their music because it is their choice which music they listen to. I have no say in what they enjoy.

Evolution of Television

Whether people enjoy it or not, television has evolved into something new. Statements that used to be frowned upon ten or twenty years ago are now being flaunted around as common slang. But let's face it, America, just like a student in a classroom, gets bored from time to time and it is up to prime time entertainment to get us excited again. I remember sitting on my couch watching the Emmys with my parents. The centerpiece music performance by Lonely Island and a list of guest appearances was a little short of what we would call "appropriate." The medley of Akon's "I Just Had Sex" and Lonely Island's "It's Not Gay In A Three Way" was a crowd favorite but was utterly inappropriate. Is it bad that you can't even let your young aged children watch television any without picking out a slang term? Television has to keep up with the pace of an average high school when it comes to comedy, and with drama series, you have to take that extra step to attract more fans. Television producers have to do what they have to do to make money. Sure, I don't always agree with what they choose. But that's not my choice. I remember hearing a comedian once say, "I'm not going to guess what your personal line of decency is, I cross my own from time to time. It's how I know I still have one."

The Flag That Still Flies

This flag was found at ground zero in New York City after the 9/11 attacks. The next night the New York Yankees were given permission to fly this flag during game three of the World Series. I saw this flag as a sign of hope because it symbolizes the fact that you can attack us. But, like this flag, we will always find different places to hold together this country and rebuild. The story of the flag continues. The Yankees went on to win the World Series in game seven, giving the city hope to rebuild after the tragedy.

My Favorite Activities

Aside from school and homework, there are many activities I participate in to make my day more exciting or just to make it go by faster. One of my main hobbies is playing the quads in the band. Even though it looks fun and easy there is always a challenge around the corner. It is also a great stress release when you are having a bad day. Another hobby of mine is playing sports outside and at the WAC. During the winter at least once or twice a week my friends and I drive out to the baseball field and play a game until it either gets too late or too cold. My third favorite hobby is eating. I enjoy trying new foods and new styles of foods.
